Mark Cornell at Vicksburg
Mark Cornell is married and lives in Champaign, Illinois with his wife and five children. He has always been interested in the Civil War. And when he found out there was a local re-enactment band, he wanted to “join up.” He has been playing trumpet for 28 years and has earned a masters degree in trumpet performance from Eastern Illinois University. He currently teaches trumpet in the Champaign area.

He is Musical Director for Pauli Carman in Champaign and plays regularly with several bands in the area, including the “Tons of Fun Band”, “Dr. Wu”, and the “Dave Dickie Big Band”. He is currently working on his Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Illinois.

Mark’s great-great-grandfather, Ambrose G. Cornell fought with the 59th Illinois Volunteers, died in service in 1865, and is buried at the National Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee. Mark’s hobbies include genealogy and following the stock market. His best experience with the 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regiment Band was the performance at the re-dedication of the Illinois Monument at the Vicksburg National Military Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
